ITEN among France's most successful tech companies promotion 2024 FRENCH TECH NEXT40/120

The French Tech 40/120 Class of 2024 once again awards ITEN, recognizing the company as one of the Country’s 120 industrial gems. This new distinction confirms ITEN’s position as a leader in the development and production of solid-state micro-batteries, and underlines its ability to become an international reference. Besides, ITEN’s inclusion in the FrenchTech 40/120 promotion underscores the company’s determination to develop its production in France, notably with the recent inauguration of the “Dardilly++” pilot plant. This site positions ITEN as one of the world’s few players with industrial production capacity for “all-solid” technology, with an annual capacity of over 30 million components.

“We’re very proud to have been named one of the 120 most promising Tech start-ups in France for the second year running. This new distinction underscores ITEN’s innovative strength, as well as its ability to achieve industrial scale-up. These assets, recognized by the French government, are also real levers for propelling the company to the rank of international leader, at the top of the league in the development of new technologies to meet the challenges of multiple transitions” said Vincent Cobée, CEO of ITEN.

French Tech 40/120 2024, a distinction for ITEN’s expertise and development ITEN is a French industrial gem, a leader in the development and production of solid-state micro-batteries with unrivalled power. It is one of the few players in the world with the capacity for industrial production of this technology, mastering the entire development and production chain. These revolutionary batteries meet the power and miniaturization needs of electronic systems specific to onnected objects, autonomous sensors or wearables. At the heart of the DeepTech ecosystem, ITEN holds over 200 patents. Based in Dardilly, near Lyon, it is a two-time winner of the Global Innovation Competition (2015 and 2017), French Tech 120 in 2023 and now in 2024. In addition, the company won the CES 2024 Best of Innovation Awards in Las Vegas for its 250 μAh micro-battery (the second French company to be honored since CES was founded in 1967). ITEN raised 80 million euros at the end of 2022 from BPI France, Groupe SEB, Innovacom, EREN Groupe and Habert Dassault Finance. ITEN has benefited from the support and assistance of the French government and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, and from the region’s scientific ecosystem for its advanced research. The technologies developed by ITEN give its products unrivalled power densities in form factors that meet the miniaturization constraints of electronic systems. In addition, ITEN’s products are designed and produced with the utmost respect for the environment, and are conceived with “sustainability by design, by process, by function” in mind:

  • Design: ITEN batteries are made of ceramic, without organic materials or critical metals such as cobalt. They are recyclable and rechargeable;
  • Process: active ingredients are formulated and synthesized using aqueous or light solvents;
  • Function: the unique performance of ITEN batteries in terms of energy and power means that the use of active materials is very low (10 to 100 times less) compared with batteries or capacitors of equivalent performance. ITEN positions its solutions in high-volume international markets with growth rates of over 10% a year. This way, it is providing solutions to meet the European directive aimed at banning coin cells by 2030, by developing rechargeable batteries that are more respectful of the environment, with a lifespan of 10 to 20 years.

“Dardilly++”, a French Tech industrialization in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region Located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, with a 500 m2 clean room, 200 m2 dry room, 200 m2 research laboratory and 200 m2 materials production room, the Dardilly pilot plant employs 70 people and has a production capacity of 30 million components a year. All of this nano-battery production, with capacities ranging from 150 μAh to 1.5 mAh, will initially be aimed at connected objects, autonomous sensors and wearables. In addition, “Dardilly++” is a fundamental step in ITEN’s commercial development in a market where there are few global players in “all-solid” technology
